Article 27(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights asserts everyone’s right to access cultural and scientific advancements. Aligned with this, open science seeks to share knowledge widely, prioritizing the public good. However, open science research must balance accessibility with legal and ethical considerations, ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge does not compromise individual or societal safety.
This video aims to structure ELSI professionals’ knowledge of how to navigate the numerous ethical requirements in open science research and the challenges researchers aiming to apply for EU grants face in relation to the ethical concerns they may have within their proposals and the ethics self-assessment they have to carry out.
